Causes of Water Damage
- Broken or leaking pipes
- Faulty appliances (e.g., dishwashers, washing machines)
- Roof leaks
- Heavy rainfall or flooding
- Sewage backups
- Condensation
Types of Water Damage
Water damage can be categorized into three types based on the source of the water:
- Clean water damage: Caused by leaks from clean water sources, such as pipes or appliances.
- Grey water damage: Caused by water from sources that contain contaminants, such as washing machines or sinks.
- Black water damage: The most severe type, involving water from sources that may contain hazardous substances, such as sewage or floodwater.
Is Water Damage the Same as Flood Damage?
While both water damage and flood damage involve the presence of water, they are not always considered the same.
Flood damage is typically associated with large-scale events, such as hurricanes or heavy rains, that result in water entering a structure from outside. Water damage, on the other hand, can occur from internal sources, such as broken pipes or leaking appliances.
However, in some cases, water damage from internal sources can contribute to or exacerbate flood damage, or vice versa. For example, a broken pipe that releases water during a flood may worsen the impact of the flooding.
